Alleviating Restless Leg Syndrome

While it's generally accepted that restless leg syndrome (RLS) has no cure, it's a disorder that can be controlled through various means.

Some people may be able to control restless leg syndrome with lifestyle changes - eliminating the use of caffeine, tobacco, and alcohol.

If the restless leg symptoms are triggered by nutritional deficiencies, then nutritional supplements such as iron, magnesium, and folate may help.

Other people find that sticking to a regular sleep schedule and acclimating the body to a predictable sleep pattern reduces their restless leg symptoms.

In some cases, restless legs are associated with a separate medical condition, such as diabetes or a neural disorder, and treating the primary condition can alleviate the RLS symptoms.

Although RLS tends to intensify as the person ages, many sufferers experience remission periods when the disorder seems to decrease or even disappear for long periods of time before reoccurring.
