How to Get Your Baby to Sleep Through the Night

Will your baby ever sleep through the night?

You're not the only parent who's ever wondered. (And many exhausted parents have also wondered whether there's such a thing as a baby who never slept at all!)

Many babies seem determined to sleep all day and want attention all night.

Or they want to wake up every two hours all night long.

Pediatricians and sleep experts agree on a few main points about getting babies to sleep at night, and keeping them asleep:

  • Imposing a sleep schedule on most newborns is not likely to work. Babies' diurnal rhythms need to mature before they can conform to a schedule.
  • Setting a regular bedtime routine with predictable cues that it's time to go to sleep can really help babies start to get sleepy on a regular schedule.
  • Falling asleep on a regular schedule tends to lead babies to longer, more restful sleep with more regular waking times.

It may take some time and patience, but eventually you will get your baby to sleep through the night.
